Rowlands Castle is a peaceful mostly-residential village with a large golf club and the undulating South Downs all around, making it a favourite with golfers, walkers and cyclists.

The village takes its name from the old motte-and-bailey castle that used to stand to the east of the village centre, although only a couple of decaying walls remain to be seen today. It has a large and lovely village green overlooked by some nice places to eat, including an Indian restaurant (Taste of India), The Tea on The Green, The Robin Hood Inn and The Fountain Inn (which is also a live music venue, so if you would like to see some local bands in action, this is the place to go). For a real taste of history the Castle Inn is a historic pub that has been serving the community from the same premises since 1753. There is also a post office and a convenience store in the village so you don’t have to travel to find the basics. If you’re looking for things to do here you could test your skills on the 18 hole, par 72 course at the Rowlands Castle Golf Club (visitors are welcome to play on week days) or head out to Stansted Park House and Grounds where the attractions include a miniature railway, a magnificent maze and a popular tea room.
